Deputy Director Academic Operations

Bio

I am a faculty member in the Department of Human Anatomy at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and Deputy Director of Academic Operations at BioRTC, Yobe State University. I am a neuroscientist with research interests in neurotoxicology, neurodegenerative diseases, experimental neuroscience, and neuroprotective strategies. My work focuses on understanding how environmental toxins affect brain structure and function and on identifying interventions that prevent or reduce neuronal damage.

My research employs experimental models such as Wistar rats and Drosophila melanogaster, integrating behavioural, histological, and molecular techniques to investigate mechanisms underlying cognitive impairment and neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and toxin-induced neurodegeneration. I have authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented at national and international conferences, with support from organizations including International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN), TETFund, and the Interim Board of Research (IBR). The most exciting award was Quinquennial award by Interim matriculation board, Ahmadu Bello University, as the highly credible and dependable supervisor.

I am an experienced academic administrator with expertise in academic leadership, curriculum development, and research ethics management. I have contributed to curriculum development and review in several Nigerian universities, including Federal University Dutse, Ahmadu Bello University, and Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau, Bauchi State. At Federal University Dutsen-ma, I contributed to developing a unique Science Communication course to strengthen researchers’ ability to communicate science effectively to society. I am currently involved in developing postgraduate curricula at Ahmadu Bello University to align with global standards and emerging needs in biomedical and neuroscience research.

At BioRTC (Biomedical Research and Training Centre), I contribute to MSc and PhD Neuroscience curriculum development and serve on key committees, including the Research Ethics Committee, Collaboration Committee, and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Committee. I am passionate about teaching, mentoring postgraduate students, and advancing neuroscience and biomedical research through capacity-building, collaboration, and outreach to strengthen scientific training in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.
