Open Science

Tools and equipment to improve replicability and accessibility to research and education

Research Overview

The Open Science Lab develops Open Source and Open Science solutions for research and education. In practice, this means that all of our developments are made freely available, and that everyone is free to use these resources. Our main interest are projects that have local importance and that supports BioRTC in fulfilling its mission in being an excellency global research centre in Nigeria. Our core capabilities include the development of scientific hardware, data analysis pipelines and tools for healthcare.

Our team is multidisciplinary, with experts in engineering, neurosciences and healthcare, which allows us to design tools that are appropriate for BioRTC’s local context but also deployable everywhere else in the world.

Key activity areas

  1. Development of research and health care tools.
  2. Training and capacity building for researchers and healthcare workers that need to use digital tools for data collection and data analysis
  3. Training and capacity building for engineers, DIY enthusiasts, and researchers that want to develop their own tools

Research Approaches and Methodologies

  • Environmental Sampling and Laboratory Analysis (water, soil, crops, fish)
  • Human Exposure Assessment
  •  GIS Mapping and Spatial Analysis
  • Health Risk Assessment Models (HQ, HI, HRI)
  • Comparative Environmental Analysis
  • Statistical and Multivariate Analysis (ANOVA, PCA)
  • Integration of Environmental and Health Data
