The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), Yobe State University, is pleased to announce the 2026 Computational Neuroscience Summer School, scheduled to take place from 12–26 June 2026 at the BioRTC Complex in Damaturu, Nigeria.
Held under the theme “Building a Computational Neuroscience Hub in West Africa,” the school forms part of BioRTC’s long-standing commitment to developing the next generation of African neuroscientists through world-class training, mentorship, and international collaboration.
Since 2022, BioRTC has organised annual summer schools that have brought together students, early-career researchers, and internationally renowned scientists from across Africa, Europe, and beyond. These programmes have become a key platform for advanced scientific training, helping to strengthen research capacity and build lasting collaborative networks across the continent.
The 2026 Computational Neuroscience Summer School will bring together faculty from leading institutions including the University of Sussex (United Kingdom), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), IDIBAPS Barcelona (Spain), the Champalimaud Foundation (Portugal), and several Nigerian universities. Participants will receive intensive training in computational neuroscience through lectures, practical workshops, coding sessions, and scientific discussions designed to equip them with the skills needed to address modern neuroscience challenges.
The programme is supported by the Simons Foundation, the Yobe State Government, and BioRTC, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing scientific excellence and research capacity in Africa.
Beyond training, the school represents BioRTC’s broader vision of establishing a sustainable computational neuroscience ecosystem in West Africa—one capable of producing internationally competitive researchers, fostering innovation, and ensuring that African scientists contribute meaningfully to the global neuroscience landscape.
As BioRTC continues to expand its research and training activities, initiatives such as this summer school demonstrate what is possible when local commitment is combined with global partnerships and scientific excellence.
We look forward to welcoming participants and faculty to Damaturu for another transformative learning experience
