Bio
I am a Research Assistant and MSc student at the Biomedical Science Research and Training Center (BioRTC), Yobe State University, Nigeria. I have a background in biochemistry and a strong interest in understanding how environmental factors contribute to the etiology and progression of neurological disorders. In particular, my research focuses on the effects of co-exposure to multiple environmental factors, as real world exposures rarely occur in isolation. I am also interested in gene-environment interactions and how these interactions influence susceptibility to neurological disease. Another aspect of my interest lies in exploring the relationship between neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, with the aim of identifying shared mechanisms that may link early-life exposures to later-life neurological outcomes. My research places particular emphasis on behavioral outcomes and the role of the tau protein in neurodegeneration. To address these questions, I work within the Maina Lab using a range of experimental models, including Drosophila melanogaster, cell culture systems, and human studies, in order to develop a more translational understanding of the mechanisms underlying environmental neurotoxicity.
