Deputy Director, Trainings

Bio

I am Dr. Abdulrahman Alkhamis, a physiologist, researcher, and academic dedicated to advancing biomedical science and research capacity in Africa. I serve as a faculty member in Human Physiology and the Deputy Director of Training at the Biomedical Science Research and Training Center (BioRTC), where I contribute to training the next generation of biomedical scientists and strengthening research infrastructure.

My research interests focus on neuroscience, aging biology, and regenerative medicine, particularly understanding the cellular and genetic mechanisms that promote healthy aging. My doctoral research investigated the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from centenarians of Northern Nigerian origin, with the goal of exploring biological resilience to neurodegenerative diseases. My work integrates advanced imaging techniques, including confocal microscopy, with cellular and molecular approaches to study disease mechanisms.

Beyond research, I am actively involved in building scientific capacity through mentorship, training programs, and collaborative research initiatives. I am also an entrepreneur and advocate for mental health awareness, promoting community empowerment through innovative initiatives such as hibiscus-based nutraceutical products inspired by my research on its antidepressant properties.
