Bio

I am a Research Assistant at the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), Yobe State University. I obtained my BSc in Biochemistry from a prestigious University, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, and am currently working under the supervision of Professor Mahmoud Bukar Maina.

My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of tau aggregation in Alzheimer’s disease. I study how oxidative modifications, especially dityrosine (DiY) cross-linking, influence tau self-assembly using the PHF-core tau fragment dGAE and neuronal models, including SH‑SY5Y cells and iPSCs. My work examines β-sheet formation, aggregation kinetics, intracellular localization, and endogenous tau recruitment to understand structural determinants of tau pathology.

In addition, I serve as a data analyst for kidney disease research and contribute to infectious disease studies, including the development of a molecular surveillance system for pfhrp2/pfhrp3 deletions in malaria. I am also involved in genotyping APOE variants in populations of African ancestry, integrating molecular and population-level analyses to advance translational research.
