A Major Achievement
We are proud to share a significant achievement in our ongoing commitment to advancing safe and secure scientific research. Two of our team members, Abdulrahman Idris Alkhamis and Dawoud Usman, have successfully completed the Applied Training Workshop on Brain-Friendly Teaching Methodologies in Biosafety and Biosecurity, organized by Sandia National Laboratories (USA) with support from the U.S. Department of Defense’s DTRA Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program.
About the Workshop
This intensive, week-long training brought together professionals from across the region to strengthen the pedagogy and delivery of biosafety and biosecurity content using evidence-based, brain-friendly teaching techniques.
Goal: Equip participants with the skills to train others effectively in promoting safe, ethical, and secure laboratory practices.
Through their successful completion of the program at Marriot Hotel,Ikeja, Lagos, Alkhamis and Dawoud are now certified trainers in biosafety and biosecurity – adding significant value to BioRTC’s efforts in building local and regional capacity.
Advancing Research Safety Locally and Globally
This certification enhances BioRTC’s ability to:
- Deliver high-quality, in-house biosafety and biosecurity training
- Support local institutions in compliance with international safety standards
- Foster a culture of safe and responsible science across Nigeria and beyond
As we expand our research activities, especially in areas like infectious diseases and translational neuroscience, these new training capabilities will play a vital role in ensuring secure, ethical, and high-impact research outcomes.
Congratulations
We congratulate Abdulrahman Alkhamis and Dawoud Usman on this achievement and look forward to seeing their impact as educators and safety ambassadors in the region.
