The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), Yobe State University, is pleased to announce that two of its researchers, Mahmood Usman and Mubarak Ismail, have been awarded the highly competitive Imaging 4 All Access Grants, funded by the Wellcome Trust (UK) and administered by Global BioImaging at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Germany.
The grants support international research visits aimed at advancing imaging and biomedical research capacity through hands-on training and scientific collaboration.
As part of the award:
🔹 Mahmood Usman, a member of the Yoshimatsu Lab at BioRTC, will undertake a scientific research visit to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, hosted by Professor Takeshi Yoshimatsu.
🔹 Mubarak Ismail, a member of the Maina Lab at BioRTC, will undertake advanced imaging training at the Imaging and Cytometry Laboratory, Technology Facility, University of York, United Kingdom, hosted by Dr Peter O’Toole.
The grants will support travel, accommodation, visa expenses, and research-related activities during the visits.
These awards represent another important milestone in BioRTC’s mission to build globally competitive biomedical researchers from Africa through international collaboration, advanced technical training, and open-access scientific infrastructure.
At BioRTC, we believe that developing the next generation of African scientists requires not only local capacity building, but also meaningful exposure to world-class laboratories, technologies, and mentorship networks. The success of Mahmood and Mubarak reflects the growing strength of BioRTC’s research ecosystem and its expanding international partnerships across the United States, Europe, and Africa.
We sincerely thank Global BioImaging, EMBL, and the Wellcome Trust for supporting this initiative and creating opportunities that strengthen imaging research capacity globally.
Congratulations to Mahmood Usman and Mubarak Ismail on this outstanding achievement.
