The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) warmly congratulates Prof. Yakaka Bilkisu Bukar Maina on her promotion to the rank of Professor of Energy and Environmental Development at the University of Maiduguri (2023/2024 academic session).
Prof. Yakaka, a valued member of the BioRTC Advisory Board, is a leading scholar in the fields of sustainable energy, environmental development, and climate resilience. Her work has consistently bridged academic research with real-world impact, particularly in addressing energy and environmental challenges in Nigeria, including in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated outstanding academic and professional leadership, including mentoring numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students, publishing widely in her field, and contributing to national and international development efforts.
She has also played key roles with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), where she has provided technical leadership on natural resource management, clean energy solutions, and climate resilience, supporting programmes that improve livelihoods and promote environmental sustainability across Nigeria.

Her promotion is a well-deserved recognition of her contributions to academia, policy, and community development. It also reflects the growing importance of interdisciplinary approaches that connect energy, environment, and human well-being.
