16th Teaching Tools Workshop

BIORTC TTW Workshop 2024

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming 16th Teaching Tools Workshop in Africa (TTW), dedicated to fostering excellence in neuroscience education across the continent. Set to take place at the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at Yobe State University from August 7-11, 2024, this workshop is relevant for educators in the field of neuroscience.

About the Workshop

The TTW series is renowned for its commitment to providing educators with innovative tools and frameworks designed to enrich neuroscience teaching methodologies. Our 16th edition will unveil stand-alone basic neuroscience modules that are seamlessly integratable into diverse curricula and adaptable to various teaching contexts. The workshop will encompass both the theory and practice of effective pedagogy in neuroscience, aiming to significantly enhance student learning outcomes.

Participants will gain insights into developing teaching modules centered around “Fundamentals of Neuroscience,” covering essential topics such as neurons and glia, receptors, sensory pathways, nerve conduction, action potentials, and the organization of higher centers mediating sensations and neurochemistry. Additional sessions will focus on curriculum development, test design, and strategies to improve student comprehension and retention.

Who Should Apply?

This invitation extends to applicants from West Africa, especially young faculty with less than 5 years of teaching experience in neuroscience-related fields such as neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, and neuropharmacology. However, individuals with more or less experience may also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants should be actively engaged in teaching a neuroscience-related subject and will be expected to present one of their lectures during the workshop.

What’s Covered?

Selected participants will be provided with free accommodation and food throughout the workshop. Selected applicants will need to cover their travel expenses to the course location. However, local transportation between accommodations and the course site will be provided.
